Woo, it was nutty alright!

I think the song would have had a smoother sounding transition from the intro to the first verse if you used the same drums samples to stutter in the front as you used as part of your main beat, get what I'm saying?

The main beat was very cliche sounding, it's like "we've all been there and heard that one before." Even the samples themselves sounded unusually familiar, it's not that damn Winstons' amen loop sliced with some FX put on top, is it? Technically speaking there isn't anything wrong with that, but if you listen to a DNB station you start to get really tired of that loop, and really fast.

Where's the bass man? Your description says you used a low 808 bass, and granted my laptop speakers can't handle low frequencies very well, I still barely heard anything of it. I think beefing up the bass would make this song a lot more enjoyable to listen to.

Mixing and sound quality are good, but then again when you only have drums, a barely audible bass, and some effects going here and there it isn't very hard to mix a track. I still want to hear a louder bass, or keep the bass as low as it is and let it work as a sub, then add another bass to your song to work as the lead, now that'd be really awesome.

Drum variety and effects work together nicely and really keep the piece going. I'm writing this review while listening to your song over a couple of times and it passes quite quickly for a song that's almost 5 minutes in length. It's true that sometimes your drums get really nutty, but it ain't so bad, it's not like it's completely incoherent or anything. I wouldn't take points off for it, is basically what I'm trying to say.

In conclusion, the song is pretty good, the only and major reason I'm not giving you a 10 out of 10 is because there is no lead bass line, and that's it really.

WizardSleeve responds:

thanks very much for the review, very much apreciated... the main beat, yeah its a processed amen that i've mashed together with another break... I can't remember which one without looking to be honest, oh yeah and the action snare too.

The bass... well its a big badass rumbling bass, that if you had a half decent sub or even som hifi speakers would be shaking the walls.. a friend over on nexus radio was playing it out and stuff started falling off his shelves

the drums are a little over stretched towards the end i think.. but i like variation, its all about a bit of drumfunk... so bored of the same shitty jump up stuff thats getting worse and worse, so i prefer to make drumfunk when making DNB these days.

I like the bit in the middle... it brings a smile to my face... thanks for the review though, glad you enjoyed it even though you couldn't hear the bass!

Jeebuz...

This is so sick and demented that it's just plain awesome. I think this fits Pico perfectly. 5/5

Envy responds:

thanks for the review! I really didn't know any pico themes, so I just had to fly by the seat of my pants sorta (If that works there than yippee)

Niiiicee!

Structure = excellent. The variety of synths you used, when you introduced them and took them out of the song, along with the percussion, was pretty much perfect. If you could increase the sound quality and re-compose some parts (since I thought some of them were slightly messy and poorly composed) then this song will own so hard... you don't even know. I hope you at least attempt to remake this song some time in the future. Until then, I'll be waiting ;P

F-777 responds:

Woah thanks!

haha

I loved the whiney synth melodies. They reminded me of indians, and were just fun to listen to. I dunno why either, but this song had a very "cool" feel to it. The guitar sounded good, rather clean too. And to be honest, this is a typical quality song for a beginner produce. Anyway, I'll give you a 5 for it nonetheless ^^

F-777 responds:

Haha ye well i had no idea how to use FL but when i found out how to put patterns together i quickly made this =).

Thanks so much for the review!

Eh.

The percussion was poor. It sounded like a bunch of bad drum samples loosely put together it form something vaguely coherent and that's pretty bad considering that 70% of your song is just percussion. The synths were alright, but nothing special. The only thing that truely grabbed my attention in this song was the volume, reverb and panning automation; it was really smooth and nicely executed. Also, your intro is elongated and kinda boring to listen to and I personally thought that including tempo automation was a stupid idea. 3/5, but I already gave you a 5 for this song since you asked me to earlier.

HouseMasta responds:

thank you?

Interesting.

This was more like techstep than trance, I think it would have been better suited in the techno genre rather than trance, but oh well. You used a wide array of sounds which is good, but the bad thing is that not all of them mixed very well. It was fun to listen to BUT there was still some dissonance there that I didn't like. The song was also not very well mastered just like the other one I reviewed, ya gotta work on maximizing and other stuff to beef up the volume and quality of your tracks! Anyway, this piece was still very diverse and that gives it plenty of bonus points from me, I'd like to try something like this in the future.

Stealth-Emergence responds:

Yeah I love to try and have as much variety as possible in most of the tunes I do, sometimes on occasion I like to strip them bare like in Time to Reflect.

Yeah Mastering is something I'm just beginning to get to grips with, My most recent track "Browser battles ending credits" is better there's still room for improvement though and I'm considering making it into a full track as I'm really please with how it turned out, if you could review that one for it's mastering, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks again for your review

Peace Out man!

Meh.

Everything sounded a tad dissonant, especially the bells, strings and horns. The song was also very systematic, it flowed like a soldier's march, rather predictable and plain. It also could have been louder, but overall it was alright and entertaining to listen to composition-wise. I'll give ya a 4 out of 5 for this one.

Stealth-Emergence responds:

Yeah I know what you mean! this isn't one of my best tracks, but I try!

Thanks again for your review!

Interesting song.

I think it would have been better if you traded in some synths for orchestral elements, like string ensembles or french horns. It also seems not to be EQ'd so well, everything mushes together and it isn't very clear. It is kinda fun to listen to though and composition-wise it is good.

RyeGuyHead responds:

true, i didnt eq this one so well, but I did use an orchestra.
(notice the timpani and string combination)

"Doooo yoooou caaaapeeee?"

She says it in such an aroused and constipated manner, it made me LAWL all over my the keyboard. Anyhow, the song isn't exciting or that interesting before the damaged drums and scratches come in, then it really kicks off. So I'm giving you a 5 just because of that part, since it really pwned.

By the way, you reviewed my "Submerged Storm" song 7 months ago and then taking your advice into account and some of my own ideas, I finished it and retitled it to "Underwater Chills." Maybe you'd like to check it out.

Rucklo responds:

Hehe. Yeah, it´s supposed to really kick in when the beat drops, I love those stuff... :) The slowed samples are slow so they make the song slower, and then when the skratching starts and the beat hits, it feels like its speeding up.

I´ll go check ur song when i get the time mate!!!

Thanx alot for the reveiw.!

Oh baby!

This song was hella rough, fiesty and dirty. I can see it as the background music for one extremely kinky porn video, but since it's suppose to have something to do with gangster wars I suppose it'd be better suited for a kinky gangbang war porn video ^_^ Awesome damaged drums too, very sexy. The ghostly acapella was also great. I give this song 9 black leather pants out of 10, good work.

LaymanLove responds:

Fiesty and dirty. That's how I like 'em. However, porn was not my motive here...despite my deparate addiction to the stuff. Haha, gang bang is my specialty. Did you know that the "damage" you speak of is created simply with over-compression/limiting and a noise gate? Cool eh?

I'll see your 9 pants and raise you 4 double sided dildos
